I’m excited to announce that Amy Collins will be working as an intern at Awen Therapy. Amy is finishing her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Edgewood College.
I’ll let Amy tell you more about herself –
I have lived in Madison for most of my life, have two grown children, and currently live with my partner of 23 years and our two rescued German shepherds. My undergraduate degree is in Organizational Behavior and Leadership, and before returning to pursue my lifelong dream of getting a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, I owned a small business for many years. It is exhilarating to be at this stage of my learning process.
I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and my goal is to create an accepting, non-judgmental environment which offers you the opportunity to explore patterns and behavior in your life that no longer benefit you. I use a systems approach, which says that we are all influenced by the culture we live in, and the world we grew up experiencing. I draw from a variety of approaches for what works best for each client, and feel that therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client working toward lasting, positive change. I am open and affirming to people with LGBTQAI and altsex identities, and believe everyone deserves to be treated professionally, with respect, and without assumptions about your goals in therapy.
